FUNgi notes

making your own stamps is one of the most satisfying crafting techniques i know of! first, you start with a blank slate, piece of speedy cut, and carve away to your heart's content with a linoleum cutter and exacto knife taking your time to get your design just right. create texture, linear cross hatching and so much more with these simple tools....& wahhh-la! you have your very own custom stamp ready to be inked up & pressed onto cards, gift bags, gift wrap, envelopes, fabric, anything you can think of....AND you can use it over and over again. on our last snowy day i carved these four mushroom stamps with my friend lauren in mind. these little fungi have a vintage 70s feel and you can get real spore-like details in the under cap with the linoleum cutter. i made cute note card sets that come with chocolate brown-paper-bag flapped envelopes. you can happily purchase them on my etsy shop.... hopinkstudios.etsy.com

happy stamping!

Eat Well

The best recipes are the ones that are shared and they are even more special when handwritten on a unique recipe card. being a newlywed i am still learning my way around the kitchen. i love receiving and trying out great recipes from family and friends and when I find a great one myself… it must be shared. Below is a recipe for a beef stew dinner ~ perfect for a crowd or for two {with major leftovers} one pot, really easy and super yummy. This may not be a cooking blog but when you mix food with paper… it’s the best recipe of all… it’s delicious! ~ p.s.

screen printed- INSPIRED

i would have to say one of my favorite medias to work in is printmaking & doing screen printing. the allowance of it's repetition, yet again let enforce the fact that it is never exactly the same each time an edition is printed, BUT is still a beautiful thing for any artist. last february i got inspired to have my screen filled with a bunch of valentine's day themed words and having them all be in different fonts throughout. i didn't have the means as of yet, then, to do the photo exposure process on my screen where i could just basically set my type in word and print out onto acetate and then expose the image to my screen. instead i took upon the challenge of painting on each word in a different font onto my screen with a very fine brush and my jar of screen filler by my side. the end result, i have to say came out very well and i printed up a bunch of 8.5x11" card stocks to cut down and use them for my valentine's cards as you can see....and of course i had to add a bunny on there too!

happy printing,
g.

LOVE pressed muslin treat bags

this super easy craft was perfect for my valentine's day treats. using my newly acquired vintage letterpress assortment of type and a sepia stamp pad i just simplypicked out varying fonts to form the word "love" and stamped a clean muslin bag (sized 3x4.5"). i made sure each letter was plenty inked-up and placed the muslin bag ontop of a magazine so the metal letter had something to push into, leaving a more clear stamped letter. later i filled them with peanut butter hearts and heart shaped peppermint patties that any hunny bunny would love! xoxo

hope your v-day was a sweet one

Year of the Tiger

for every holiday i usually try to pick a theme of some sorts... something creative and something fun to plan around. well, this year not only was valentine's day on february 14th but it was also chinese new year. so my valentine was a take out box full of chocolates including chocolate covered fortune cookies and chopsticks tied with an i love you ribbon. my card featured a chinese take out box and a fortune cookie printed inside. so cute... and the night was complete with a yummy chinese food dinner! i hope you and yours had a great valentine's day xo! ~ p.s.

football and paper?

are you ready for some football? it is super bowl sunday and whether you like football or not… this is the one day of the year where it is perfectly acceptable to eat chips and dips, nachos, wings, pizza and all other types of fatty bar food all in the matter of about 4 hours. gotta love it!!

here are some fun super bowl invitations i have made... people don't always think about sending an invite but it does set the tone for your party. so if people receive a great invitation they know its going to be a party they shouldn't miss.

enjoy the game {and the commericals too}

twinkle twinkle little star…

yesterday was my best friend lauren’s baby shower. she is due march 27th and the theme was twinkle twinkle little star to match the baby's room. here are some pictures from the shower… it was a beautiful day!

1. i was busy baking this week. lauren loves cupcakes so i knew that was a must {along with 6 trays of delicious cookies from her mom and aunts} and of course the cupcakes wouldn’t be complete without cute cupcake toppers.
2. my newest craft i have taken up… crocheting. i thought it would be special to make a baby blanket for lauren's first baby. my first crocheting project and it came out beautifully. {i am lucky my mom gives good lessons}
3. my friend tara and i gave her the diaper bag she wanted and filled it with all the necessities: diapers, wipes, bottle, pacifiers, wash clothes, bibs and some cute little outfits. baby shower gifts are just too cute!!
4. we were asked to bring a children’s book instead of a card. how do you tell a girl who loves to make cards… don’t bring one? so along with the book i made a library card gift tag and it doubles as a book plate.
5. place cards – with changes up to the very end because of the snow storm in the forecast… they finally got done. blue and yellow moon and stars… finished off with a little glitter.

fascinate scarlett

i am pulling the title from my personal blog, which is all about things that fascinate scarlett. this blog is dedicated specifically to the art of creating. i will create lots of lists throughout this blog of things that fascinate me. but today let's start with my favorite printed and paper icons. there are some things that i will never get tired of seeing printed on stationery, tote bags, t-shirts, and whatever else can get printed on. i tend to be a collector of many things and things adorned with these particular icons are always in my collection jar...some of them are trendy and some are classic, cute, vintage, mod, or unique. some i never used to like until i looked at them a different way and some remind me of childhood.
let's go:
birds. owls. chickens. robots. diner signs. ferris wheels. hearts. ice cream cones. letters. telephones. tickets. airline logos. cupcakes. gumball machines. hot air balloons. wish dandelions. scrollwork. pennants.

and the list goes on but that is a partial list of the things i melt for and also some of which i am creating in my line. (stay tuned, friends)
i am attaching a picture of a really cute hot air balloon from rockscissorpaper. i carry part of their line in my store and they have a lot of adorable stuff. it's not too often that you find hot air balloons that are this adorable.

why paper is SO sweet!

ok...my turn! my name is gina and i am the girl wearing the cowgirl boots in the illustration of us under the TENT :) a little bit about the boots first. they are a hand-me-down from my bestest friend cailin, she got them at salvation army and i eyed them up every time i went to her apartment and then she gave them to me just like that. she is the BEST and i think of her whenever i wear them...and let me tell you i wear those suckers everyday so xoxo to my cailin!
ok back to paper & crafting....want to tell you a little background about me as well. i am 25 years old and i am an illustrator and fine artist. i love anything to do with art, being creative & using my hands to make stuff. i LOVE bunnies, they are my favorite thing ever i think. i had a rabbit, mickey, for 10 years and i created my card line HOP ink s t u d i o s in memory of him. so in a lot of my illustrations you will find cute bunnies hopping around here and there, they just make me happy and I hope they make you happy too! like Patty I am a fiend for chocolate & cupcakes if you combine the too even more golden, with a tall glass of milk too :) now onto the REAL stuff... want to tell you about why paper is SO sweet and important to me & my fellow shop girls under the tent.
paper is personal paper is dependable paper is controlled paper is accessible paper is portable paper is tactile paper makes a good impression paper is warmer paper evokes emotion paper invites participation paper is recyclable & reusable paper is vintage paper is real paper assures paper means business paper sells paper has endless possiblities...

when was the last time you wrote a letter or sent a "thank you" note?
there are just times when an email or phone call won't do. that's when we turn to paper....
when you sit down and take time out to express yourself in writing or drawing on paper THEY notice. it becomes something real something to hold, feel, see, save, pass on....and even inspire the receiver to do the same and the cycle can continue on happily. whether it is a party invitation, a holiday card or a child's drawing you post up on your fridge paper brings people together, and that is the SWEETEST thing about it.
